Shannon Briggs Didn’t Hesitate When Asked If Prime Mike Tyson Beats Oleksandr Usyk

Mike Tyson against Oleksandr Usyk is a fantasy fight that continues to be debated within the boxing world.

Both men are widely regarded as two of the best heavyweights in recent memory, with Tyson’s success coming during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

He would become the youngest world heavyweight champion in history before going on to earn undisputed status, defeating fighters such as Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks, Trevor Berbick and Frank Bruno along the way.

‘Iron Mike’ was known for his ferocious power, winning his first 19 fights by knockout, 12 of them inside the first round. He ended his career with 50 victories to his name, with 44 of them by stoppage.

Usyk’s main attribute is his elite boxing skills, first becoming undisputed in the cruiserweight division before he moved up to heavyweight and accomplished it again, making him only the second man to do that after Evander Holyfield.

The Ukrainian has defeated Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois in the banner division, all on two occasions, going alongside an Olympic gold medal he claimed as an amateur back in 2012.

Shannon Briggs is another man that was once world heavyweight champion, holding the WBO belt from 2006 to 2007, and he has offered his thoughts on who would have come out on top between Tyson and Usyk in their prime.

Speaking to Mail Sport Boxing, Briggs sided with his countryman.

“I got Mike Tyson.”

Briggs isn’t the only man to predict who would come out on top in that match-up, with Tyson’s former foe Holyfield also offering his take.
