Former world heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs has revealed the best fighter that he ever crossed paths with.
The hard-hitting American had an impressive professional career of his own, where he held the WBO heavyweight title between 2007 and 2008.
Known for his thunderous punching power, Briggs racked up no less than 53 stoppage victories throughout the course of his career, amassing an impressive win-to-knockout ratio of 88.3%.
He shared the ring with a number of legendary heavyweights during his tenure, including Ukrainian great Vitali Klitschko, two-time world champion George Foreman and former undisputed champion Lennox Lewis.
In a feature with The Ring Magazine, Briggs made no mistake in revealing Lennox Lewis as the best fighter he ever faced, brandishing ‘The Lion’ as one of the ‘greatest heavyweights ever’.
“Lennox [Lewis] and George [Foreman]. Ray Mercer was incredible, Botha was tough. I’d say Lennox Lewis, one of the greats. One of the greatest heavyweights of all time.”
Lewis faced ‘The Cannon’ at the Convention Center in Atlantic City back in March of 1998, stopping his American rival in the 5th round to successfully retain his WBC heavyweight title for the third time.
‘The Lion’ would later capture the undisputed heavyweight championship when he defeated Evander Holyfield via unanimous decision at the conclusion of their highly anticipated rematch in November 1999.
