Terence Crawford wants nothing more in the sport of boxing than to get his chance at Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez.

The pair are both four-weight world champions, however ‘Bud’ Crawford only recently made his debut at 154 pounds whereas Canelo has been dominating the scene at 168 for some time now.

Many in the sport feel that two division jump will be too much even for the undefeated pound-for-pound star. Does that include Shawn Porter, who Crawford stopped in ten rounds back in 2021 and sent into retirement?

Speaking on his podcast The Porter Way, the former welterweight world champion went back and forth on his prediction.

“Hate me, but I think it’s a 50-50 fight. It’s really, really hard for me to see Canelo losing to Crawford. But also there’s things that I can see that Crawford is so good at, that I can’t see him not being able to be sharp and do that round after round.

If [Canelo] comes in firing on all cylinders it’s only a matter of time, but you know the number one thing I know about Bud Crawford… A lot of people talk about what we’ve seen him in the past, we’ve seen him get rocked by this guy, by that guy, but when he got in with the best, we saw him as sharp as he ever was. That’s just who he is. God damn, I don’t know.”

Canelo has been hot and cold on the fight, at one stage largely dismissing it before saying he would entertain talks if the numbers were right. There is a general feeling that Crawford may choose to retire completely if he can’t land the fight, as he has been clear on nothing else bringing him the same motivation.
