Two-time welterweight champion Shawn Porter is well-placed to judge Terence Crawford‘s punching power ahead of his jump up in weight to face Canelo Alvarez.

‘Bud’ Crawford is set to challenge Canelo for the Mexican’s undisputed super-middleweight world championship on Saturday September 13 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Allegiant Stadium.

The unbeaten 37-year-old from Omaha could be on the verge of writing his name into the boxing history books once again, as victory over the Mexican icon would see him become the first male fighter of all time to win all four belts in three weight divisions.

One of the more notable opponents that Crawford defeated on his way to becoming undisputed at welterweight is Shawn Porter, who was stopped in the tenth round of their showdown back in November of 2021 after fighting a good fight.

In an interview with K.O. Artist Sports, Porter summed up how hard Crawford hits with the term ‘speed makes power,’ and Crawford has plenty of speed.

“Even if he connects and you’re not out, he’s going to keep coming and he’s going to hit you. I kind of describe Terence’s power as more of a whip because he throws his power with speed. It coins the phrase, ‘Speed makes power.’

“So his power is kind of disguised because of his speed, which I think makes it more of a whip. It’s not going to take a long time to get there, it’s going to get there fast and it’s going to pop you.”

Whilst Crawford has racked up 31 stoppage victories during his career, there have been concerns raised about whether he can carry his power up to super-middleweight against an opponent that has established himself as the dominant force at 168lbs with one of the best chins in the business.
