Two-time welterweight champion Shawn Porter has had his say on a potential rematch between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia.
The American duo clashed for the first time back in April of 2024, a bout that would later be steeped in controversy after it was revealed that Garcia had tested positive for a banned substance beforehand.
‘King Ryan’ was initially declared the winner via majority decision, dropping Haney multiple times during their non-title showdown at the Barclays Center in New York City.
Garcia was subsequently issued with a 1-year suspension from boxing and given a fine of over $1 million, although the 27-year-old from California has since made his return to the ring, suffering a shock defeat to Rolando Romero back in May.
Haney was last in action on November 22 when he became a three-weight world champion, defeating countryman Brian Norman Jr via unanimous decision to capture the WBO world welterweight title.
Speaking to K.O. Artist Sports, Shawn Porter made no mistake in backing Haney to defeat Garcia in a rematch, after it was speculated that the duo could be in line to lock horns once again in the future.
“I’m on record saying Devin beats Ryan in a rematch. I’m probably the only one that said Devin beats Ryan in a rematch.”
Garcia is said to be in the final stages of securing a deal to face WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios next, with an official announcement expected to be made in the early stages of next year.
Should Garcia walk away victorious in a potential match-up with Barrios, this could set up a monumental rematch with Haney with both fighters expressing an interest in doing battle for a second time.
