Shawn Porter has a clear view on how a second fight between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia will play out.

The two rivals first met in April of last year. Though initially set to be for Haney’s WBC Super-Lightweight World Title, Garcia came in three pounds overweight and was ineligible to win the belt.

The fight went ahead regardless and Haney was knocked down three times on the way to a points loss against the odds. Garcia’s victory lap was short-lived, however, when it was found he had twice tested positive for a banned substance. The result was overturned to a no contest and he is currently serving a ban that ends next month.

Speaking on The Porterway Podcast, ‘Showtime’ said he completely backs Haney to get the win second time around despite how the first contest played out.

“I get annoyed. I’ve actually heard a couple people say Ryan’s got Devin’s number. And I’m like how? How does that come out of your mouth? He has Devin’s number? He doesn’t. That was one fight, one time, big moment.

“We know what was involved but I truly believe that Devin Haney beats Ryan Garcia in the rematch. I truly think that Devin is the better boxer. I think that Devin, when focused and firing on all cylinders, is just a better boxer than Ryan Garcia.”

It may not be too long until fans find out how Haney can bounce back. Both men feature on a May 2 card in Times Square, with Haney facing Jose Ramirez and Garcia taking on Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero. Two wins will set up their return fight for later this year.
