Shawn Porter faced both Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford in welterweight world championship fights.
Spence and Crawford had dominated the division before finally meeting in a unification fight in 2023. Spence held the WBC, WBA and IBF belts whilst Crawford brought the WBO to the table to crown the first four-belt 147 undisputed champion.
Though Crawford dropped and stopped Spence in a sound beating when they faced off, the latter has a higher knockout-to-win ratio by 3%. Porter, who lost a split decision to Spence in 2019 and was stopped by Crawford two years later, backed that up on his podcast by saying:
“Errol thumps harder.”
However, speaking more recently to KO Artist Sports, the former world champion described Crawford’s shots more in-depth.
“Even if he connects and you’re not out, he’s going to keep coming and he’s going to hit you. I kind of describe Terence’s power as more of a whip because he throws his power with speed. It coins the phrase, ‘Speed makes power.’
“So his power is kind of disguised because of his speed, which I think makes it more of a whip. It’s not going to take a long time to get there, it’s going to get there fast and it’s going to pop you.”
As Spence seemingly weighs up whether or not to return to the ring – he has been mentioned by the likes of Keith Thurman, Vergil Ortiz Jr and Sebastian Fundora – or hang up the gloves officially, ‘Bud’ Crawford is working on carrying his power up to 168lbs where he will face Canelo Alvarez in September.
