Newly-crowned WBO world super-middleweight champion Hamzah Sheeraz has predicted the outcome of Canelo Alvarez‘s comeback bout against Christian Mbilli.
Mexican great Canelo is set to make his highly-anticipated return to the ring when he challenges the hard-hitting Mbilli for the WBC world super-middleweight title later this year.
The bout is scheduled to take place at an unconfirmed venue in Riyadh on Saturday September 12, just under one year on from Alvarez’s shock defeat to Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford.
Canelo suffered a unanimous decision defeat to Crawford at the conclusion of their showdown for the undisputed super-middleweight championship at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on September 13 of last year.
Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Sheeraz didn’t hesitate to back Canelo to get the job done over Mbilli as he claims the four-weight world champion is capable of stopping the WBC champion.
“A bit of a bold statement, but I believe Canelo stops [Mbilli] within six to eight rounds.”
Sheeraz then addressed the rumours about a future clash with Canelo, where he admits that whilst he expects to face the Mexican star down the line, he is reluctant to name the pound-for-pound star as his next opponent.
“There’s a big chance [that I fight Canelo after]. I wouldn’t say it’s my next fight because I’d like to stay active. I don’t want to make the mistake of staying idle and having nothing.”
Sheeraz captured world honours at the second time of asking last weekend when he stopped Germany’s Alem Begic in the second round of their bout at the iconic Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.
