Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford are just months away from their monumental showdown.
The pound-for-pound stars will meet in their highly anticipated mega-fight on Saturday September 13, with Las Vegas set to play host to potentially the biggest bout of the year.
Canelo will make the first defence of his undisputed super-middleweight championship after he began his second reign as four-belt champion on May 2 when he defeated the previously unbeaten William Scull in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He is now set to welcome Crawford to 168lbs when the American has previously only completed as high as 154.
In an interview with Fight Hype, former sparring partner of both Canelo and Crawford, Kyrone Davis, had his say on what he believes will happen when the modern greats lock horns later this year.
“I hate that people when I say Canelo’s gonna win, they go crazy like I’m saying something crazy, depending on what side of what you think’s gonna happen. I’m not saying that Canelo’s gonna blow Crawford out, and I’m not saying it’s not gonna be a great fight. I believe it is, and when I say that Canelo can win, I’m not saying that Crawford’s not going to be able to pull it off, if anybody can do it it’d be Crawford. I’m not saying that it’s not a competitive fight.
“You’re asking me a straightforward question, ‘Who do you think’s going to win?’, at the end of the day if you had a gun to my head, I would say Canelo. We’re talking about guys that can show up and be amazing.”
Canelo has been a dominant force at 168lbs since making his debut in the division seven years ago, defeating the likes of Gennadiy Golovkin, Jermell Charlo and Jaime Munguia amongst others, remaining unbeaten in his campaign at super-middleweight only having lost to Floyd Mayweather at a lighter weight and Dmitry Bivol at 175lbs. Crawford, undefeated, looks to be the first man to change that in his divisional debut
