Fans are willing Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson to put their undefeated records and lightweight titles on the line in an all-American clash.

The fighters are two of the most highly regarded in the sport of boxing for very different reasons – ‘Tank’ Davis for his extreme power and ferocious finishes, Shakur for his calculated scoring and elusive movement.

Speaking to FightHype, Robert Meriwether III used his knowledge of sparring Davis, Stevenson and Devin Haney to back the big puncher from Baltimore in either match-up.

“In my opinion, I got Tank. But I do feel like it’s a tough fight between all of them. They have really good skills, IQs and they know what they’re doing.

With Tank, he has the experience on them and he has the pop. We don’t know if Shakur or Devin have the pop to keep Tank off of them. He goes in there and he’s just looking to kill. He takes a shot and he gives it right back. We’ve got to see if Shakur’s gonna be able to build that muscle up and that power up. For right now, he’s not gonna be able to.”

Whilst Haney holds the WBC belt up at super-lightweight, Davis and Stevenson are still competing at 135 and are the most likely of the trio to face off.

Fans thought they may be seeing it later this year when Vasiliy Lomachenko dropped out of the race to face Davis, but it was later confirmed that no official talks have taken place and Stevenson is understood to instead be looking at a fight with number one contender William Zepeda.

As for Meriwether, he returns to the ring for the third time this year in September, looking to extend his unbeaten record in the super-featherweight ranks to 7-0.
