Middleweight contender Kyrone Davis is better placed than almost any other fighter to predict a potential Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs Terence Crawford fight having sparred both men.

Since defeating Errol Spence Jr in dominating fashion last year, Crawford has made it clear the fight he wants most before he hangs up the gloves is against the super-middleweight undisputed champion.

Although Canelo has been dismissive of the clash due to the three-weight class difference money usually talks in boxing and the man behind the big fights in Saudi Arabia, Turki Alalshikh, has announced plans to make it happen.

Speaking to YSM Sports Media the sparring partner who has shared the ring with both is predicting size will conquer skills if the two do meet.

“I’ve been in the ring with both. I got Crawford ready for when he fought Shawn Porter, I was with him fort a few weeks. What do I think of that fight? Everybody knows that Crawford has the skills but I do think that Canelo is a little bit too big for Crawford and it’ll be a tall task for him to win, it’ll take a lot to get the victory based on size alone.

Not that size win fights, but you’ve got a guy that has size and skills. It’ll be hard, nothing’s impossible but if I had to put my money on somebody winning the fight it would be Canelo Alvarez even though Terence Crawford is a great fighter.

They’re both great fighters, you’ve got two great fighters in there, but one guy has the advantage due to his makeup, his body type, how big a person he is and I think that will be the deciding factor in that fight.”

Davis believes Crawford would find it hard to cause real damage to Canelo who is known for his granite chin even at light-heavyweight.

“Absolutely [he would have to fight the perfect fight]. Size will play a factor in that fight. It’ll be a lot harder to damage Canelo and Canelo’s punches will be way more effective than Crawford’s punches if they fight at 168, so it’ll be an issue. It’s not impossible but it will be hard.”

Crawford is next in the ring on August 3 when he makes his 154lb debut against WBA champion Israil Madrimov.

Canelo is coming off a dominant victory over Jaime Munguia and is expected to fight again in September with an opponent yet to be announced.
