Daniel Dubois will make the second defence of his IBF Heavyweight World Title when he faces former champion Joseph Parker on February 22 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Dubois was elevated to full champion after a win over Filip Hrgovic but really legitimised his status by knocking out Anthony Joshua inside five rounds back in September to defend the belt. He now steps through the ropes with Parker, who is on an equally good run of form with wins over dangermen Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang.
Speaking to Box Nation, former European heavyweight champion and British title challenger David Adeleye used his experience of sparring both men to back Parker for the win, and potentially by knockout.
“I think Parker’s just a bit too much. [He’s] tough. So, I think Parker’s gonna do it. I think either he stops Dubois in good fashion, and it he doesn’t then it’ll be close on points.”
Though Dubois is the fighter with the advantage in power, Adeleye – who is coming off a statement first round stoppage of Sol Dacres for the English title – believes Parker’s overall ability puts the fight in his favour.
“He’s a more well-rounded fighter. He can do a bit more. Good balance, good punch selection, fast, uses his head, he’s tough. When you’re talking fundamentally, and I’ve been in the ring with him, I can see certain things he does that can upset Dubois. The advantages he has over Dubois.”
Having said that, the 28-year-old doesn’t count out the champion for obvious reasons.
“Dubois whacks. Big boy. Good in straight lines. Obviously, he’s a heavyweight so he’s in for a puncher’s chance. You see him over the last 13, 14 months he’s been on form. He’s been on fire. He’s doing what he needs to do. If he was to win we wouldn’t be surprised but if you ask for my opinion I say Parker’s gonna win.”
