Errol Spence has compared the credentials of Floyd Mayweather and Terence Crawford.
Mayweather is regarded as one of the best fighters of his generation, claiming world honours from super-featherweight to super-welterweight, with the majority of his success coming at 147lbs.
In that division he was able to defeat the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Shane Mosley and Ricky Hatton, whilst also beating fighters such as Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez at super-welterweight.
Crawford also had plenty of success at welterweight, claiming a win against Spence himself in July 2023 to become undisputed, having also achieved that honour at super-lightweight.
Having known first hand what it was like to fight Crawford, and having also sparred Mayweather in the past, Spence has given his take on the debate, telling FightHype that he views Mayweather as the better of the two.
“It’s a big difference. Floyd is just different. I feel like he’s the best fighter… I don’t know about all time, he might be the best fighter of all time and if not he’s close. Two or three, not by far.
“There’s different things that Floyd does. He was a lot older when I sparred him and there are just certain things he does that are real tricky. We’d get in the clinch and he was like squeezing my nose so I couldn’t breathe and stuff like that. Veteran, all-time type stuff. Mentally, by far I feel like he’s the best.”
Crawford has a big fight to prepare for next month, as he gets ready to challenge undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez.
