Errol Spence has given an insight into the greatness of Terence Crawford.
The 34-year-old from Long Island, New York shared the ring with Crawford in July 2023 as they contested the first undisputed welterweight championship of the ‘four belt era’.
The highly anticipated showdown between the welterweight superstars had been many years in the making, with many left wondering beforehand if they would ever end up facing each other.
The skills, expertise and technical ability of Crawford proved to be too much for ‘The Truth’ as he put on an incredible display to claim a ninth round stoppage victory at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
As ‘Bud’ gears up to face Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez later this year, Spence spoke fondly of his former rival and backed him to prevail in what will be the biggest challenge of his glittering career.
Speaking to Fight Hub TV, ‘The Truth’ shared his thoughts on the mega-fight and highlighted the two fights where Canelo moved up to light-heavyweight to show that Crawford can do the same.
“I’ll be going for ‘Bud’ if he fights Canelo, I’ll be going for him. I don’t know if he’s going to win or lose but I’ll definitely be going for Crawford. I think if anybody can pull it off he can pull it off.
He’s chasing greatness so why not? Canelo went up to 175 and fought Kovalev and fought the other guy [Bivol] too, so if he can do it, and he started at 147, so if he doing then why can’t Crawford do it.”
An official announcement on the exact date for the huge showdown between the pound-for-pound stars is set to be made in the coming weeks, with both fighters now reportedly in agreement for the fight to happen in Las Vegas this September.
