Former world welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr has shared his thoughts on a potential clash with Jake Paul.

The 35-year-old American has been inactive since he suffered the first defeat of his career to five-weight world champion Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford in July of 2023.

Spence was comprehensively beaten by ‘Bud’ in their historic clash at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, falling short in his attempt at capturing the undisputed welterweight championship.

It was initially expected that Spence would make his long-awaited comeback to boxing at some stage in 2025, although this did not come to fruition for a number of reasons.

‘The Truth’ is now said to be eyeing a return to the ring in 2026, with rumours circulating about who the 35-year-old could potentially lock horns with.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Spence said no to a potential future showdown with YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul due to a significant weight difference.

“I mean, I don’t know. I just want to fight real… I mean he is a boxer, he is a fighter. I consider Jake Paul a boxer now because he’s in the gym with boxers, he’s sparred boxers. He’s fought boxers, so I mean but that’s out of my weight class man. I’m not going up to 190. I’m 165 right now and I’m not ballooning enough to fight Jake Paul.”

Paul is currently preparing to face two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in Miami on December 19, a controversial match-up that has divided the sport in recent weeks. Crawford had said reportedly said yes to the fight but wanted it in 2026, so Paul’s team went with ‘AJ.’

Should Spence opt to make a return to action, the 35-year-old could be in line to face one of the reigning world champions at 154lbs, including WBC title holder Sebastian Fundora.
