Errol Spence Jr has shared his thoughts on whether he believes former rival Terence Crawford should be considered one of the greatest fighters ever.
Five-weight world champion ‘Bud’ Crawford announced that he had called time on his glittering professional career in December, just two months on from his monumental victory over Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez.
The 38-year-old from Nebraska etched his name into the boxing history books by becoming the first male fighter to win an undisputed world championship in three divisions, a feat he previously accomplished at super-lightweight and welterweight.
‘Bud’ produced a number of legacy-defining victories along the way, including a 9th round stoppage win over Errol Spence when they clashed for the undisputed crown at 147lbs back in July of 2023.
Speaking to Fight Hub just moments after Crawford defeated Canelo, Spence was asked if he believes his former rival can now be regarded as one of the best fighters to have ever laced up a pair of gloves.
“He is one of the greats. Sure.”
Before he made the final decision on his future in boxing, Crawford had been linked with a potential move down to middleweight in a bid to become a world champion in a sixth weight class.
Instead, ‘Bud’ opted to draw the curtain on his career with ‘nothing left to prove’, becoming one of the few great champions in the sports history to retire from boxing without suffering a single defeat.
