Former unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr has urged a potential future rival to stop calling him out in a shock turn of events.

Spence is yet to make a return to action since he suffered the first defeat of his professional career to former pound-for-pound great Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford in July of 2023.

‘The Truth’ was outclassed by his countryman at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas before he was eventually stopped in the ninth round of their clash for the undisputed world welterweight championship.

Whilst it had been reported that the 35-year-old from Long Island had been in line to make a comeback to the sport in the early stages of 2025, this did not come to fruition after negotiations for a planned showdown with Sebastian Fundora came to a halt.

Another option for Spence could be a clash with former undisputed light-middleweight champion Jermell Charlo, who recently called out ‘The Truth’ for a potential bout this year.

Speaking to Fight Hype recently, Spence responded to being called out by Charlo as he claims his countryman is only chasing him for a fight because he ‘wants a big payday’.

“I mean, Canelo gone, Terence gone. So you know who else he gonna get a big payday from? That’s the only reason he called me out because everybody know how the sparring went. His coach Derrick James know how the sparring went. Everybody in the gym know how the sparring went. So, hey man, he wants some money.”

Charlo has also been out inactive since he was beaten by Mexican icon Canelo Alvarez in September of 2023, falling short in his attempt at becoming the undisputed world super-middleweight champion.
