While most fans expected the Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach rematch to happen next, Shakur Stevenson may have other ideas.

Davis and Roach fought to a majority decision draw at the start of March in a controversial fight that saw ‘Tank’ take a knee in the ninth round but no knockdown was scored.

It was a crucial moment, as if it had been given as a 10-8 round for Roach, it would have been enough to earn him the win on the scorecards and become the new WBA lightweight champion.

All signs pointed towards an immediate rematch between Davis and Roach taking place next, but it seems that there could now be another option available.

Speaking on the ‘It Is What It Is Podcast’, Roach revealed that he has already spoken to WBC lightweight champion Stevenson about the possibility of facing him next, and the response he got was ‘let’s run it’.

“We already talked to Shakur and he’s on board. I talked to him personally and he was like ‘we can run it.’ Even before the fight he said ‘after you win we can unify,’ I said for sure.”

While a fight between Stevenson and Roach wouldn’t now be a unification, that didn’t stop Stevenson agreeing to take the fight, taking to social media earlier this month to make it clear that the offer still stands.

“And if Lamont can’t get a rematch I got a big fight for him and a world title shot against me.. that’s my bro but we def can make something happen.”

Roach also revealed that while he’s signed for the ‘Tank’ rematch, they are still waiting for Davis to confirm.

“I’m signed and sealed. We’re waiting on the other half.”

It means it could potentially pave the way for Roach to take a fight with Stevenson instead if delays continue, but boxing fans will hope that the ‘Tank’ rematch happens next to put to bed the controversy from their first meeting.
