Shakur Stevenson has offered an insight into the impending rematch between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach.

‘Tank’ and Roach are expected to lock horns for the second time later this summer after their controversial first encounter in New York City on March 1.

The main talking point of their first bout came during the ninth round when Davis took a knee to the canvas after being on the receiving end of a Roach jab, but referee Steve Willis failed to rule this as an official knockdown.

After a competitive and closely fought contest, the fight was declared a majority decision draw, although a lot of viewers have argued that ‘The Reaper’ had done more than enough to dethrone Davis and hand the unbeaten American the first defeat of his career.

Speaking to K.O. Artist Sports, current WBC lightweight champion Stevenson admitted that he is giving his backing to Roach this time around, but did give plaudits to both fighters.

“Tank’s a hell of a fighter, Lamont is a hell of a fighter. Hopefully me and him [the winner] can make the fight happen.

I like Lamont in the rematch.

I sparred with Lamont and I knew that he was a good fighter. He helped me get ready for the Oscar Valdez fight, and I knew his style with Tank’s style what he was going to be able to bring to the table. They’re both good fighters, and it’s going to be a hell of a fight, truthfully they both good fighters. It was the same Tank we’ve seen throughout his entire career, he’s the same fighter and he’ll be the same throughout his career”.

Although an official announcement is yet to be made, the rematch between Davis and Roach is expected to take place in Las Vegas on Saturday August 16.
