Pound-for-pound star Shakur Stevenson has shared a massive hint on who he would like to face next.
The 28-year-old from Newark made his much-anticipated return to the ring on January 31 when he defeated countryman Teofimo Lopez via unanimous decision to capture the WBO world super-lightweight title in New York City.
Stevenson put on a career-best display against Lopez to become a world champion in a fourth weight division and cement his status as one of the best active fighters on the planet.
As speculation begins to grow about who Stevenson will be facing next, the unbeaten American star appears to have dropped a major hint on who he would like to fight next.
Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Stevenson admitted that he wants to make the ‘biggest fight in boxing’ next, which could finally see him lock horns with long-term rival Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.
“I’ll say this, I would love to make the biggest fight in boxing happen. It ain’t about what I consider the biggest fight, it’s what y’all consider the biggest fight in boxing, so y’all know what that mean.”
Stevenson was then asked if that meant Davis.
“Like I said, I would like to make the biggest fight in boxing happen. I’m down with whatever, you know, whatever makes sense but once again, I would love to make the biggest and best fights happen.”
The 31-year-old from Baltimore has been the subject of a number of legal troubles over the last few months, but could be in a position to make his long-awaited return to the ring later this year.
