Shakur Stevenson‘s highly-anticipated return to the ring looks on the brink of being confirmed.
Stevenson is widely regarded as one of the best talents in boxing, having put together an unbeaten record of 24-0 which has seen him become a three-weight world champion at featherweight, super-featherweight and lightweight so far.
He currently holds the WBC lightweight title, and made the latest defence of his belt in July when he put in arguably the best performance of his career with a unanimous decision victory over previously unbeaten William Zepeda at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York.
Following that win, there has been a lot of debate over who Stevenson may step into the ring with next, with fellow lightweight world champion Gervonta Davis and unbeaten star Floyd Schofield suggested as possible options.
It appears Stevenson’s next fight will see him move to an entirely new weight class though, after WBO super-lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez revealed on social media that their clash is set to be announced soon.
“I can’t wait to kick Shakur’s ass. We should be announcing the fight very soon. More details this week. They say January, some are saying February, I’m like wait woah let’s make the fight happen in January. Why are we waiting so long?”
Two-weight world champion Lopez has held the WBO title at 140lbs since June 2023, and was last in action at Times Square in New York in May when he successfully defended it against Arnold Barboza.
Many big names from the boxing world have already weighed in on the proposed Stevenson vs. Lopez match-up, with the legendary Roy Jones Jr being one of them.
