Shakur Stevenson has shared his thoughts on Jake Paul‘s chances of defeating Gervonta Davis when they clash later this year.
Paul made his most recent ring appearance on June 28, defeating Mexico’s former WBC world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr via unanimous decision at the Honda Center in Anaheim, earning himself a world ranking with the WBA in the process.
As for Davis, the 30-year-old had been in line to face fellow countryman Lamont Roach Jr in a rematch next, but these plans have since been shelved after a period of failed negotiations between the fighters.
Another fighter that has been linked to a clash with ‘Tank’ over the years is WBC lightweight champion Stevenson, who was last in action in July when he defeated William Zepeda to retain his title.
Speaking to TMZ, Stevenson summed up Paul’s chance of getting the better of Davis in three words: Not at all.
“No. Nope. Not at all. Tank has been boxing his whole life. I doubt [Jake Paul’s power] is gonna be an issue. I think Jake is good for where he’s at, but I think there’s just levels … ‘[Tank wins] by decision. That guy’s too big, I don’t think he’s gonna knock that guy out. I don’t see him knocking him out, no.”
‘The Problem Child’ has received criticism for opting to face Davis next, especially considering the lightweight champion stands at eight inches shorter than him and weighed in at over 60 pounds lighter than him for his last outing against Roach.
Paul had been in negotiations to face two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua instead, but the fight hasn’t materialised and the YouTuber-turned-boxer will instead go up against ‘Tank.’
