Shakur Stevenson has revealed where he believes he ranks in the pound-for-pound list after his dominant victory over Teofimo Lopez.
Stevenson became the latest fighter to win world titles in four weight divisions last weekend when he defeated countryman Lopez via unanimous decision to capture the WBO world super-lightweight title.
The unbeaten 28-year-old from Newark put on an outstanding display to once again establish himself as one of the best active fighters on the planet.
All three of the judges produced identical scorecards of 119-109 at the conclusion of their clash at Madison Square Garden which pays testament to Stevenson’s dominant performance against ‘The Takeover’.
Speaking on the Cigar Talk podcast, Stevenson admitted that whilst he ‘doesn’t care’ about where he is ranked in the pound-for-pound list, he says that he believes he is ‘up there’ with the very best in the world.
“No I don’t care no more. At the end of the day it’s a political type of thing. Like it’s politics within if it’s this person or they like this other person, they put the guys higher.
“For me, me personally, to go beat Teo the way that I did with Teo being a 28-year-old fighter in his prime, he just dominated against a guy like Arnold Barboza, made him look like a fool. Then I make him look even worse than Arnold Barboza looked against him.
“For me, I’m up there. I’m up there. Like you say, top three. That’s for me. But I always know it’s a list that can be just played with. Guys can say anything at this given point but my numbers are doing great. I’m one of the best fighters on planet earth.”
Stevenson is expected to make a return to action in the summer with multiple reports suggesting that he could welcome a showdown with Britain’s Conor Benn next after the duo faced-off in the ring just moments after the American star was declared the winner on Saturday night.
