Shakur Stevenson believes he knows who will prevail in the upcoming showdown between Ryan Garcia and Rolly Romero.
The reigning WBC lightweight champion extended his unbeaten record last month with a dominant ninth round stoppage victory over Britain’s Josh Padley, who had stepped in on a couple of days notice to face the undefeated American star original opponent, Floyd Schofield, pulled out with illness.
Stevenson is now in the process of finalising his next move, with many fans and pundits still demanding a fight take place between the 27-year-old and Gervonta Davis, who currently holds the WBA world title at 135lbs.
One fight in particular that Stevenson appears to have his sights set on is the intriguing welterweight showdown between Garcia and Romero, which is set to take place on May 2 at Times Square in New York City.
Speaking to K.O. Artist Sports, Stevenson made no mistake in backing Garcia to defeat Romero, admitting that he believes ‘Rolly’ is not ‘that good’.
“Ryan. Rolly is not that good, Ryan is a better boxer. I don’t look at Ryan the way other people look at him.”
The 27-year-old then predicted how he thinks ‘King Ry’ will triumph in May.
“I can see a knockout.”
Garcia returns to the ring on May 2 after serving a one-year suspension from boxing after he failed a drugs test in the lead-up to his bout against two-weight world champion Devin Haney last April.
The 26-year-old from California is expected to face Haney in a rematch later this year, as long as both fighters come through their respective interim fights, with Haney preparing to face Jose Ramirez on that historic Times Square card.
