Shakur Stevenson has broken his silence on Gervonta Davis announcing he plans to retire at the end of 2025.

Both Stevenson and Davis are currently preparing for separate world title fights, with Shakur putting his WBC lightweight belt on the line against Floyd Schofield on February 22, while WBA lightweight champion Davis meets Lamont Roach a week later.

Ahead of his meeting with Roach, ‘Tank’ made the shock announcement that he plans to retire at the end of the year, putting a potential unification clash with Stevenson in doubt.

Stevenson has now finally given his reaction to the news whilst speaking to Fight Hub TV, initially needing just two words to sum up his thoughts.

“It’s soft.

“If he wants to retire with the career that he got, then go ahead and do whatever you got to do. I disagree with it, but that’s on him.”

Stevenson was then asked if Tank’s announcement makes him no longer as interested in trying to secure a showdown with his lightweight rival.

“I ain’t going to lie, I ain’t in to chasing people around. If he’s willing to fight I’m ready to fight. I think it should happen but I can’t sit there and chase you and then he try and make it seem like I need him. I don’t need him.”

While Stevenson and Davis are yet to meet professionally in a ring, they have had an infamous sparring session in the past, and Shakur has revealed his version of events for how it exactly went.
