Shakur Stevenson has reacted to the corner work of Teofimo Lopez Sr after he defeated his son in dominant style last Saturday.
The 28-year-old from Newark extended his unbeaten record to 25-0 as he defeated Lopez via unanimous decision to capture the WBO world super-lightweight title at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Stevenson etched his name into the boxing history books by becoming the fastest four-weight world champion in the sport’s history at just 28-years-old in what has already been regarded as the best performance of his career to date.
Speaking on the Cigar Talk podcast, Stevenson jokingly reacted to the corner instructions of Lopez Sr as he claims the father of his former rival doesn’t give ‘any instructions’ when he works his corner.
“He goes in there every fight with Teo and do the same s**t. He don’t go tell him no instructions. I ain’t gonna lie that was crazy when he said ‘What happened to your power bro?’ … Nah no bulls**t though like ‘What happened to your power bro?’.”
Lopez is expected to take some time away from the sport after suffering the second defeat of his career to Stevenson. The 28-year-old from Brooklyn had been on an impressive run of form going into the bout but could not match the tempo and output that had been set by his countryman.
As for Stevenson, the Newark-native is expected to be back in action during the summer as rumours begin to circulate about a potential showdown with newly-crowned WBO welterweight champion Devin Haney.
