Shakur Stevenson has responded to the criticism from Gervonta Davis.

Stevenson was in action on Saturday, defending his WBC lightweight title against late replacement Josh Padley, who stepped in after original opponent Floyd Schofield was forced out of the fight through illness on Tuesday.

Shakur was able to defeat Padley via ninth round stoppage to retain his title, but some observers felt that the defending champion should have got Padley out of there a lot sooner.

One of those critics was WBA lightweight champion Davis, who took to social media during the bout to tweet ‘lol’ – indicating he was far from impressed with his countryman’s performance.

Stevenson has now responded to Davis whilst speaking to Fight Hub TV, initially needing just three words to share his thoughts on his 135lb rival.

“He’s a clown.”

Stevenson then explained the differences between Davis and himself.

“Tank’s style is he’s a power puncher. He is a guy that is trying to knock you out. I’m a guy that is trying to break you down, pick you apart, win and if the knockout comes it comes.

“Two different styles but I’m better at the art of boxing. I got respect for his game but I don’t have respect for him as a person.”

Stevenson was then asked if a fight against ‘Tank’ can be made.

“Turki got all the money so put the biggest fight on. Let’s negotiate. Both of us could make a lot of money. I’m ready to make it happen.”

Before any potential Stevenson vs. Davis fight could be made, ‘Tank’ first returns to action this weekend, as he defends his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach.
