Three-weight world champion Shakur Stevenson has conceded to the fact that a showdown with one fighter in particular will never happen.
The 28-year-old from Newark made his return to the ring back in July when he made the third successful defence of his WBC lightweight title against Mexico’s William Zepeda at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York City.
Reports are suggesting that Stevenson is on the verge of finalising a deal to face countryman Teofimo Lopez next, with rumours circulating that he will make the move up to super-lightweight to challenge for Lopez’s WBO world title in January.
Whilst fans and analysts are looking forward to the intriguing clash between Stevenson and Lopez, one fighter that has been on the radar of the WBC lightweight champion over the last few years is Gervonta Davis, although a showdown between ‘Tank’ and Stevenson is yet to come to fruition.
Much to the disappointment of boxing fans, Stevenson recently confirmed on social media that he is ‘moving on’ from the idea of sharing the ring with Davis in the future, as he sets his sights on becoming a four-weight world champion.
“Oh yeah for future references don’t ask me about that lil girl no more this go for all reporters and interviewers I don’t want to hear that sh*t no more, she told yall she will never fight me so I’m officially moving on”
Davis is set to make his return to the ring later this year as he prepares to face Youtuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in a controversial ten round exhibition bout at the Kaseya Center in Miami on Friday November 14.
