Shakur Stevenson could be set to land a major fight next after all.

Stevenson was last in action in July when he successfully defended his WBC lightweight title with a unanimous decision win over William Zepeda at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York.

It was viewed as arguably the best performance of Stevenson’s professional career so far, which began in 2017 and has seen the American also claim world honours at featherweight and super-featherweight.

A chance to win a world title in a fourth division could have then come when he we was linked to a clash with WBO super-lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez, but those rumours appeared to be quashed when Stevenson initially claimed that his rival hasn’t signed a contract to fight him.

It appears that may have now changed, after the pair went back and forth on social media and each stated they have now signed a deal for the bout to take place.

Lopez was the first to post about the clash.

“What up, Gangsta. ✍️ 140 Shakur Stevenson.”

The WBC champion then responded.

“Lil Teofimo Lopez I accept the fight also ✍️.”

Stevenson did however suggest that Lopez may still be bluffing.

“I really agree to the fight with the people that will do the fight, but you need to stop playing with the fans and acting like you agreed to the fight when you haven’t agreed on sh*t but on social media. Reach out to them people and sign the paperwork!”

If the fight was indeed to take place, former world champion Tim Bradley believes he already knows who would come out on top.
