Sugar Ray Leonard Delivers Honest Verdict On Canelo vs Crawford: “No Question About It”

Sugar Ray Leonard has weighed in on the upcoming showdown between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.

The modern pound-for-pound greats will lock horns at an unconfirmed location in the USA on Saturday September 13, after it was originally due to take place on the day before. The fight will be co-promoted by Riyadh Season and Sela, as confirmed by Turki Alalshikh last week.

Canelo will be defending his undisputed super-middleweight championship against the 37-year-old from Omaha, who is bidding to become achieve undisputed status in a third weight class.

Hall-of-fame legend Sugar Ray Leonard has spoken out and given his assessment of the upcoming battle between Canelo and Crawford, which has been described by so many as the ‘biggest fight in boxing’.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Leonard was asked to share his thoughts on ‘Bud’ Crawford making the move up to 168lbs to face Canelo, having spent the majority of his career campaigning at the welterweight limit of 147lbs.

“It’s a big difference. I mean when I fought Donny Lalonde, every time he hit me he hurt me to a degree, not knocking out but he hurt me, put it that way. He can do it, I mean you can do it no question about that.”

Crawford last fought at 154lbs, when he dethroned Israil Madrimov of the WBA super-welterweight title in Los Angeles last August.

The unbeaten 37-year-old switch-hitter will have the opportunity to become a five-division world champion when he challenges Canelo in just four months, in what is undeniably going to be the toughest test of what’s been a glittering professional career.
