Katie Taylor is one of the greatest female boxers of all time and has now shared who she thinks are the best in the sport right now.
Taylor is arguably the biggest name women’s boxing has ever produced and is credited with dragging the sport into the mainstream almost single-handedly.
She turned professional in 2016 under Eddie Hearn, and she became undisputed lightweight champion and headlined boxing’s first-ever all-female Madison Square Garden main event against Amanda Serrano in 2022.
It was widely billed as the biggest fight in women’s boxing history, and she won by split decision, then went on to avenge a rare loss to Chantelle Cameron in a Dublin rematch, and has continued headlining historic cards, including a Serrano trilogy fight, leaving her record at 25 wins and just 1 defeat.
Speaking to DAZN Boxing, the Irish star unveiled her current pound-for-pound list.
“The Top 5 female fighters right now are Mikaela Mayer, Alicya Baumgardner, Ellie Scotney, Gabriela Fundora and Clarissa Shields.”
Mayer is the undisputed welterweight champion, Baumgardner is the unified super-featherweight champion and has a split-decision win over Mayer in a real 50/50 classic, and London’s Scotney became the youngest undisputed women’s champion in UK boxing history when she won the junior featherweight titles.
Fundora is also an unbeaten and undisputed flyweight champion with knockout power, and Shields is the self-styled GWOAT and has been undisputed in three separate weight classes.
In what will be her last ever fight, Taylor takes on 28-year-old unbeaten French fighter Flora Pili at the iconic Croke Park in Dublin on Saturday, September 5.
Taylor, who is now 39, will be hoping to sign off from a fantastic career in front of what will be a partisan home crowd.
