Katie Taylor Names The Future Face Of Female Boxing: “She’s Phenomenal”

Katie Taylor is arguably the greatest female boxer of her generation, and the Irish star has now named who she thinks will take up that crown in future.

Taylor has been a professional fighter with Matchroom for a decade. In that time, she has transformed the perception of female boxing with her all-action, come-forward style.

She was the undisputed and undefeated lineal world lightweight champion from 2019 to 2024, and has held the unified and lineal world super lightweight championship since 2023.

After plenty of epic fights with the likes of Amanda Serrano, Chantelle Cameron, Natasha Jonas and Delfine Persoon, Taylor returns to the ring one last time in Croke Park in Dublin when she takes on Flora Pili on 5 September.

Ahead of that, she has been speaking to Matchroom Boxing and has picked out one rising star who she thinks will follow in her footsteps.

“The Future of female boxing is Tiah-Mai Ayton, I think she’s phenomenal.”

England-born Ayton made her mark in the amateur ranks in 2024 by winning a gold medal in the 57kg category at the World Boxing Under-19 Championships.

She is a former kickboxing and Muay Thai age-group world champion and the 2024 Haringey Box Cup winner who made her professional debut in Birmingham in June 2025 and so far has had six fights, winning five by knockout and one on points.

Last time out in May, she beat Stevi Levi inside four rounds and returns this weekend when she competes for the vacant Commonwealth Featherweight title against 26-year-old Ellie Hellewell.
