Teddy Atlas has opened up about Canelo Alvarez‘s upcoming title fight against IBF champion William Scull.

The 34-year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico is set to face Scull on May 3 in Riyadh, as he bids to become a two-time undisputed super middleweight champion.

Canelo previously held all four belts at 168lbs, but was stripped of the IBF crown last year when he opted for a fight against Edgar Berlanga rather than Scull, who was mandatory challenger at the time.

The 32-year-old Cuban then picked up the vacant strip with a unanimous decision victory over Vladimir Shishkin in Germany in October.

Before his bout against the newly crowned IBF champion was confirmed, Canelo was heavily linked with social media sensation turned professional fighter Jake Paul. who recently defeated heavyweight icon Mike Tyson.

It was reported that negotiations between Canelo and the 27-year-old broke down at the last minute, although Paul has claimed the Mexican superstar has ‘ducked’ him.

Speaking on his own YouTube channel THE FIGHT, Atlas believes Scull’s challenge of Canelo could well be less entertaining than Jake Paul’s.

“At the end of the day, I don’t know if the Scull fight will be any more dangerous, oh do I dare say this? … Do we know that the William Scull fight will really be more entertaining than a Paul fight would have been? Do we know that?”

Paul’s return to the ring is still yet to be confirmed, although his promoter MVP recently confirmed they are in discussions with ‘multiple high-profile opponents’ for the American, who is being urged by many to face a more credible opponent than the ones he has faced in his career to date.
