Teddy Atlas believes only one man can come out on top when Daniel Dubois fights Oleksandr Usyk.
This much-anticipated heavyweight showdown on July 19 is a repeat of a first meeting back in August 2023. That fight saw Dubois start well and have Usyk down with what he thought was a body shot, though it was ruled low.
Usyk was given plenty of time to recover and did, eventually stopping Dubois inside nine rounds.
Since then Usyk has twice beaten Tyson Fury to become undisputed heavyweight ruler, while Dubois has put together a superb trio of KO wins over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua.
Speaking on his own THE FIGHT show, legendary analyst Atlas predicted a great contest but ultimately sided with Usyk.
“At the end of the day, my projection of this fight is hey, go watch it, it’s going to be very interesting. Fasten your seatbelts. Because Daniel Dubois, if it’s in his destiny, and it might be, for what he’s going through, to win, he’s ready to win now. He has been forged in a fire. So it’s going to be a really interesting fight.
“At the end of the day I can’t go away from one of the greatest people, and I think Dubois is a great person, and his trainer is a great person, but I can’t go against one of the greatest winners. A guy who’s greatest trait, yeah he can box, yeah he’s defensively good, yeah he can put punches together, yeah he’s a southpaw, but he’s a guy who finds a way to win. I can’t go against Usyk. He’ll find a way. It might be really tough, but he’ll find a away.”
The winner will become undisputed champion, which in Usyk’s case would make him the first man to ever do that twice in the heavyweight division during the four belt era, and will likely have to face mandatory challenger Joseph Parker next.
