Teddy Atlas Makes New Canelo vs Crawford Prediction As Fight Now Official: “He Might Be Overrated”

Teddy Atlas has predicted what he believes the outcome will be when Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Terence Crawford clash later this year.

It was confirmed last week that Mexican superstar Canelo will make the first defence of his undisputed super-middleweight championship against Crawford on September 13 at an unconfirmed location in Las Vegas.

Canelo achieved undisputed status at 168lbs for the second time in his career on May 2 when he dethroned former IBF champion William Scull in Riyadh, becoming the first fighter in boxing history to accomplish this feat on two separate occasions.

Legendary trainer-turned-analyst Teddy Atlas has spoken out ahead of the monumental showdown, which has been described by many as being the ‘biggest fight in boxing’.

Speaking on his Youtube channel THE FIGHT, Atlas gave plaudits to ‘Bud’ Crawford who he claims is a ‘special’ fighter, before he goes on to question whether Canelo is ‘slightly overrated’.

“Canelo is really good, really good, but I think Crawford is special, I know he hasn’t fought the resume everyone wants but you have that or you don’t have that ingredient and I think he has it.

Canelo is really good, he’s tremendous but could he be a tiny bit overrated? The greatness is within Crawford, it’s in his desire, it’s in his mind, it’s in his makeup, where he came from, I know he’s moving up in weight classes, can he carry it? You know but those intangibles, I believe that he has them.”

Victory for Crawford would see the 37-year-old from Omaha become the first fighter in boxing history to win an undisputed championship in three weight classes, writing his name into boxing history once again in the process.
