Teddy Atlas believes one of the greatest fighters of all time remains active to this very day.
Atlas began his career in boxing working as a trainer where he went on to guide the careers of a number of highly rated fighters including Oleksandr Gvozdyk and Alexander Povetkin.
Perhaps the most success that he had as a coach came when he worked alongside former unified WBA and IBF world heavyweight champion Michael Moorer, working with ‘Double M’ for seven fights between 1993 and 1997. Moorer was the first Southpaw to win the heavyweight world title.
Since moving away from his training duties, Atlas has spent time working as an analyst and commentator for a number of platforms including NBC and ESPN, although he is more commonly known for sharing his expert opinion across his own Youtube channel, THE FIGHT.
In his latest episode, Atlas praised newly-crowned undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, as he claimed the Ukrainian superstar is ‘one of the greats’.
“He’s done it all, he’s one of the greats, one of the greatest. He’s right up there now, the greatest heavyweights of all time. I never thought I’d be saying that but it has to be said, if you’re gonna say the truth.”
The 38-year-old Ukrainian icon re-captured the undisputed championship at heavyweight in the process, becoming the first fighter of all time to accomplish the exceptional feat of doing that after holding all the belts at cruiserweight. Though Usyk may stick to his plan of having one more fight, many, including Atlas, would like to see him retire on top. That may be a hard decision given how impressive he looked against Dubois.
