Teddy Atlas has spoken about the potential trilogy fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
‘The Gypsy King’ has already twice lost to the Ukrainian. First was in May 2024 for the undisputed heavyweight championship, then came the rematch in December which went the same way and led to Fury to make the announcement that he was hanging up his gloves.
Usyk recently became a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion by beating Daniel Dubois inside five rounds having already stopped him back in August 2023. Post-fight, he mentioned Fury’s name as a potential opponent for what would likely be his final fight.
Speaking on his own YouTube channel before the Dubois win, Atlas passionately outlined why he doesn’t think Fury and Usyk should fight again.
“I don’t wanna see it, I’ll tell you why. I’ve seen enough. I’ve seen Usyk beat Fury. I loved them both and they have done nothing but good for boxing and their family and themselves. They’re tremendous, they’re warriors, everything. I don’t wanna see it no more. Usyk won twice. The first one could have been a knockout if he didn’t hold himself back when Fury went down. He could have put that final blow in that would have hurt him. Been there, done that, seen that movie, don’t make another one.
“As a lifetime boxing guy but as a parent and a grandparent, I think both these guys are getting very close to the end of what God gave them. I wanna see Usyk win the Dubois fight, if he gets through it, and walk off into the sunset and enjoy it.”
Many agree with Atlas that now is the time to hang up the gloves, however it can be a hard case to make given how in-form he looked against young Dubois.
