Just days after Keyshawn Davis called out Gervonta Davis, legendary trainer Teddy Atlas has weighed in on a potential showdown between the lightweight stars.

‘The Businessman’ picked up the first world title of his career on February 15 with a show-stopping performance against Ukraine’s Denys Berinchyk to become the WBO lightweight champion in just his 13th professional outing.

Shortly after his fourth round knockout victory over Berinchyk, the 25-year-old from Norfolk, Virginia made a sensational call-out to ‘Tank’ Davis, who currently reigns as the WBA lightweight champion. Davis is often regarded as one of the most devastating punchers in the sport, having knocked out 28 of the 30 fighters he has beaten during his tenure.

Speaking on his own YouTube channel THE FIGHT, Atlas addressed the rumours that have began to circulate regarding a potential lightweight showdown between Davis and ‘Tank’.

“I think he [Keyshawn] is just about ready for anybody, I think Davis is ready for anybody, maybe even ‘Tank’ Davis. And as much respect as I have for Tank, everyone knows that, I think he’s one of the top five pound-for-pound fighters in the world, complete package, can do everything and do it with power and dynamite, but I think Davis is ready.

Tank Davis has everything, but I actually, and it’s the highest compliment I could give Keyshawn, that he could be ready. I’m not saying he would win or lose all I’m saying is that he is not out of his league with any off the top guys, he’s come that far.”

‘Tank’ makes the next defence of his WBA title against Lamont Roach Jr on March 1 in New York City, as he looks to extend his unblemished professional record. The 30-year-old has also been heavily linked with a potential fight against WBC lightweight king Shakur Stevenson, who returns to the ring on February 22 against highly rated prospect Floyd Schofield.

In a shock revelation made by ‘Tank’ Davis at the end of 2024, the American superstar claimed he could actually walk away from boxing within the next 12-months after admitted he has ‘grown tired of the sport’.
