Teddy Atlas has shared his thoughts on the potential showdown between Jaron Ennis and Teofimo Lopez.
IBF welterweight champion ‘Boots’ Ennis has been linked with WBO super-lightweight champion Lopez over the last few weeks, fuelling rumours that the pair could lock horns at some point in 2025.
It is being speculated that Ennis could defend his IBF crown against ‘The Takeover’ at the back end of the year in the United States, potentially as a double header with the highly anticipated rematch between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia.
Speaking on his own YouTube channel THE FIGHT, Atlas gave an honest prediction for the potential bout between ‘Boots’ and Lopez, breaking down the attributes and abilities of both fighters.
“That fight with Ennis and Teo, I never thought of that fight I’m gonna be honest, that never crossed my mind. At first I would think Ennis is too big for Teo, he’s fought at a heavier weight class throughout his whole career.
“Teo’s big too, Teo is a guy that can fill in, and Teo’s very talented you always wonder if you’ve seen the best of him, you saw him against the great Lomachenko when he came out and really made his bones.
“I think that it’s a really interesting fight, Teo could present, if that fight ever happened, a challenge that you would have to see a spectacular Ennis, and if you don’t Teo could upset the apple-cart.”
Although an official announcement is yet to be made, ‘Boots’ and Lopez appear to be on a collision course for one of the most intriguing fights in the sport.
Both fighters are gearing up for their respective returns to the ring, with a potential showdown with each other looking very likely to finally take place in 2025.
