Anthony Joshua has a big decision to make about what steps he should take next to get his career back on track.
The former heavyweight champion lost inside five rounds to Daniel Dubois last month.
He was knocked down multiple times before the end came and now must decide whether to rebuild his career with some easier fights or head straight into a rematch with Dubois, who is one of the form men in the division having also stopped Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic in his previous two fights.
Speaking on iFL TV, legendary former trainer turn analyst, Teddy Atlas, was asked whether Joshua should go straight into the rematch and attempt to become three-time world champion for a second time.
“Anthony Joshua has been around a long time. He’s been a champion, he lost, he came back, he’s been a Gold medalist, he’s beloved in his home country. Anthony Joshua has earned the right to make his own decision.
If Anthony Joshua and his people want a rematch without a fight in between, he’s experienced enough to do it. It’s not like he hasn’t been down that road before.
He has been down that road with Andy Ruiz. He didn’t take a tune-up. He made changes, he came back, he won. If that’s what Anthony Joshua chooses he wants to do and he believes in doing. Yeh, he should do it.”
He was then asked if ‘AJ’ can beat Dubois.
“It’s a tough one. We already know that Dubois is strong and thick and can punch, all of that, but what we didn’t know was how tough he is mentally, how he got confidence and believes in himself. He can do the most important thing a fighter can do in a fight – overcome.”
There is already talk of the rematch potentially taking place in February out in Saudi Arabia.
