Terence Crawford’s win over Errol Spence Jr last year to become undisputed in a second weight class catapulted him to the top of many pound-for-pound lists.

It was the third division the Omaha fighter has won world honours in after kicking off his career at lightweight, beating the likes of Jeff Horn, Viktor Postol and Yuriorkis Gamboa on his path to the statement Spence victory.

Speaking on his podcast, The Fight, famed trainer and analyst Teddy Atlas said just two things would spell defeat for ‘Bud’ – being aged out or making too big a weight jump.

“Crawford, there are only two things that could possibly beat him: Father Time and moving up too many weight classes. He does have a good frame, a good skeleton, to move up and put the weight on. And he does carry power up in weight so far, which is really good.

He separates himself from everybody because of his mind. His talent is exceptional – it stands alone … Mentally he’s a junkyard dog. He’s gonna get you. He’s a nasty guy in that ring. I don’t mean dirty, I mean nasty in a way he ain’t letting you beat him.”

Crawford will put that to the test yet again in his career when, at 36-years-old, he moves into a fourth weight class to challenge world champion Israil Madrimov.

Should he win, he has his sights set upwards again all the way to super-middleweight undisputed champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
