The debate continues to rage on over the scoring of the rematch between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
All three judges scored the fight 116-112, leaving ‘The Gypsy King’ furious with the outcome, insisting that he did enough to get the victory.
Legendary boxing analyst Teddy Atlas has now given his take whilst speaking to Talksport Boxing, and he revealed how he scored the bout.
“116-112 [For Usyk].”
Having agreed with the judges, Atlas then broke down where the fight was won and lost.
“The judges got it right. I don’t understand all these people talking about robbery. From the sixth round on Usyk does what he usually does. He had a bad fifth round and what does he do? He responds. He finds a way to win.
“For me he won six straight rounds. I gave the last round to Fury. There were some rounds where Fury tried to steal the rounds in spots and I wasn’t sure how the judges would go.
“A lot of people thought they would go that way [for Fury] in the tight rounds. In the whole, from the sixth round on, the man controlling the pace of the fight, the tempo of the fight, being the boss in the fight, it was only one guy, it was Usyk.”
In a seperate interview with Pro Boxing Fans, Atlas moved away from the judging debate to focus on Usyk. Asked if he should now be considered an all-time great, the trainer turned analyst had little doubt.
“Are you kidding me? He’s earned the right to be mentioned with all the top guys. He’s one of the great winners of our era … There’s not one thing he doesn’t do real well. There’s not one weakness.
Oscar De La Hoya was also one of the big names in attendance for the fight, and he has revealed who he felt deserved to win.
