Teofimo Lopez has made a big u-turn on his prediction for Canelo Alvarez versus Terence Crawford.

The pound-for-pound superstars are set to do battle on Saturday September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Canelo defends his undisputed super-middleweight championship against ‘Bud’, who will make his debut at 168lbs against the Mexican icon.

The duo faced-off for the first time in Riyadh on May 3, just moments after Canelo defeated Cuba’s William Scull via unanimous decision, capturing the IBF super-middleweight title in the process to begin his second reign as undisputed champion at 168lbs.

In an interview with Fight Hype, Lopez had initially gave his backing to Canelo, as he claimed the Mexican star is ‘too big’ for the unbeaten American.

“I think Canelo is just too big for him. He’s too big, realistically. Too big, too strong and used to that weight class, so you can be a boxer and all those things but it is what it is.”

However, the 27-year-old from Brooklyn has now revealed that he believes Crawford will get the job done

“I’ve been saying Canelo but I think Crawford might pull something. I think that the odds are in his favour as far as that, the reason why people are going to tune in is not just because of Canelo it’s gonna be mainly because of Crawford.”

History beckons for Crawford as victory over Canelo would see the 37-year-old become the first male fighter to win an undisputed championship in three divisions, having already accomplished this at super-lightweight and welterweight.
