Teofimo Lopez has revealed his terms for taking on Ryan Garcia.
Lopez is the current WBO super-lightweight champion, having defeated previously unbeaten Josh Taylor to win the belt back in June 2023.
That victory saw Teo become a two-weight world champion after holding four belts at lightweight, where his standout win saw him overcome Vasiliy Lomachenko to unify the division.
Since his victory over Taylor at 140lbs, Lopez has struggled to set the world alight, earning points victories over Jamaine Ortiz and Steve Claggett this year.
He’s made it clear that he wants to take on big names, and in the super-lightweight division there aren’t many bigger than Garcia.
Garcia was set to challenge Devin Haney for the WBC super-lightweight title in April, but he missed the weight by over three pounds, making him ineligible to win the belt.
He went on to win the fight, dropping Haney three times along the way, but it was later overturned to a no contest after Garcia failed a drugs test.
‘King Ryan’ is currently serving his ban which is set to expire in April 2025. Lopez has told the It Is What It Is Podcast that he would be willing to fight him, but made his terms clear.
“Ryan says catchweight, but I don’t know catchweight. We can go to 147 and fight for a belt, I deal with world titles. One thing thought about me – USADA. United States Anti-Doping Agency. Even if I gotta pay out of pocket.”
