Teofimo Lopez has weighed in on the potential rematch between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia.
Garcia put on the performance of a lifetime against ‘The Dream’ last April, dropping him several times before he was declared the winner, handing Haney the first defeat of his career.
The celebrations of ‘King Ry’ came to a dramatic halt in the weeks following his victory, after it was revealed he had tested for the banned substance Ostarine and was subsequently given a 1-year suspension and a fine of over $1 million.
It was reported this week that both fighters have agreed to a rematch which is likely to take place in October. It is expected that Haney and Garcia will have separate fights on the same card in May, paving the wayfor the rematch to take place if they both come through their respective bouts unscathed.
Speaking to ESNEWS, WBO super lightweight champion Lopez predicted Garcia to prevail in the rematch against his rival, claiming ‘everybody’ is going to pick ‘King Ry’ to be victorious.
“I think Garcia, I think everybody’s gonna pick Garcia.”
He was then asked if he is targeting the winner, to which he said this:
“Yeah, absolutely. We gotta go through these two tough competitors and world class champions, and then after that it’ll be the winner between Haney-Garcia, thats what we’re looking at.”
Lopez is preparing for his return to action in the first half of 2025, with IBF super lightweight champion Richardson Hitchins and Subriel Matias emerging as potential opponents for ‘The Takeover’.
