Jake Paul and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr are just weeks away from their intriguing cruiserweight match-up.
They are set to lock horns on Saturday June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, in what will be Paul’s first ring appearance since he defeated heavyweight legend Mike Tyson via unanimous decision last November.
Chavez Jr is unbeaten in his last two bouts and will have his sights set on becoming just the second man to defeat ‘The Problem Child’, potentially squandering the Youtuber-turned-boxer’s chances of becoming a legitimate world champion in the near future.
In an interview with BOXR Podcast, reigning WBO super-lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez had his say on what he thinks the outcome will be when Paul clashes with Chavez at the end of the month.
“You know people have this debate, you know even for us like has he faced a real fighter yet? Has he faced a pro fighter yet? I think that it is a great start up to test the waters for Jake Paul, he finds a way to make it entertaining and execute.
“Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, I haven’t seen him fight in a while, we will see what he does. You know I think it is gonna be a good step up for Jake Paul though at the end and see if he is really serious about the boxing world – I think it’s exciting for everybody, may the best man win.”
Paul has received criticism for his choice in opponents since making his professional debut, but the 28-year-old could finally make a statement if he can be victorious over the former WBC middleweight champion.
