Teofimo Lopez has spoken about whether a Jaron Ennis fight is indeed happening.
Ennis was expected to move up to super-welterweight to take on Vergil Ortiz in February, but after confusion over whether ‘Boots’ would have to vacate his IBF welterweight title, the fight fell through and Ortiz will take on Israil Madrimov instead.
It means that Ennis has been searching for a new opponent, with it emerging that a showdown with Lopez was potentially being discussed for early 2025.
Lopez is the reigning WBO super-lightweight champion, and would be stepping up to 147lbs for the world title battle between two undefeated fighters.
With rumours continuing to circulate over whether or not the fight may be in negotiations, Lopez has taken to social media to confirm that he wants the fight to happen. Lopez praised ‘Boots’ but warned him that when they step through the ropes together all respect will go out the window and it will be ‘just straight business.’
“I fu** with you Jaron Ennis & your father Bozy however if it gots to go with our careers, I got to do what I do best and takeover! I have a youngin’ and he needs to see the best example of what a true fighter is! Nothing but love from this side B. Just straight business.”
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has revealed that Matchroom chief Eddie Hearn has been approached about making the fight, which would be a joint DAZN and ESPN PPV.
Ennis was last in action in November, when he defended his belt with an underwhelming points victory over Karen Chukhadzhian to extend his unbeaten record to 33-0.
If Lopez vs. Ennis isn’t to be made, there are a number of other options available to Teofimo, and he recently claimed one former undisputed champion has turned down millions to face him.
