Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez are just months away from their monumental showdown.
It was announced last week that the modern pound-for-pound greats will lock horns on Saturday September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Canelo is set to make the first defence of his undisputed super-middleweight championship against the 37-year-old from Omaha, having achieved this feat for the second time in his career when he defeated former IBF champion William Scull last month.
‘Bud’ Crawford will make his first appearance at 168lbs against the Mexican icon, having spent the majority of his career campaigning at welterweight before making his move up to 154lbs last August to dethrone Israil Madrimov of his WBA title.
Speaking in a media scrum just moments after the launch press conference took place in Riyadh on Friday, Canelo claimed that he agrees with comments made by Turki Alalshikh previously, as he urges Crawford not to ‘run’ when they do battle.
“I agree with Turki Alalshikh because people come and spend money to see a great fight, and if the other fighters comes and runs all the night and don’t make a good fight it’s deception. I hope Crawford [doesn’t run].”
Crawford then made his intentions clear whilst speaking in the press conference, as he declares he ‘will not run’ on fight night.
“I’m not gonna let somebody else force me or tell me how to fight when I’ve been fighting my whole life, I won’t be running I can tell you that, but I will be doing a lot of touching.”
The 37-year-old will write his name into boxing history should he be victorious against Canelo, as he will become the first male fighter in boxing history to win an undisputed championship in three weight classes.
