Terence Crawford wants to push himself to the very limit as a fighter by making an unprecedented weight jump to face undisputed 168 world champion Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez.
Recently undisputed at welterweight, Crawford will make his 154lbs debut against WBA Champion Israil Madrimov next month. A win will see him conquer a fourth division and show fans that he can continue to bulk up towards Canelo’s size.
Promoter Eddie Hearn – who has worked with Canelo extensively over the last few years but is not currently involved with him due to a deal with PBC – spoke to Fight Hub TV and said the only way the fight happens is with the involvement of one Turki Alalshikh.
“That’s down to His Excellency. The only person who can make that fight is His Excellency because of what Canelo wants for it. You’re gonna have to pay up for it, and [that’s] the only way to get the money that Saul wants.”
Luckily for fans who wants to see it, Saudi Arabia’s Alalshikh has expressed his interest. Crawford also happens to be one of three recently-announced ambassadors for the Riyadh Season promotion.
Canelo hasn’t yet put a price tag on the ‘Bud’ bout, although he has done for his WBC mandatory challenger David Benavidez, demanding $150 – $200 million.
Any talk of the potential super-fight between the two pound-for-pound stars is likely to halt abruptly should Crawford not beat Madrimov at super-welterweight, so all eyes now turn to August 3 in Los Angeles.
