Terence Crawford is a man in high-demand.

Whether that’s Teofimo Lopez looking to jump up from super-lightweight to face him, Vergil Ortiz willing to be his next super-welterweight test or Jaron Ennis looking to follow him to the 154 ranks to chase the fight he couldn’t get at 147, ‘Bud’ has options.

Now a four-weight world champion with a legacy that will be hard to match, Crawford may not choose any of the above. In fact, despite the fan interest in the ‘Boots’ Ennis bout, ‘Bud’s team feel the 27-year-old from Philly has no chance against their man.

In an interview with All the Smoke Fight, Crawford’s coach Brian McIntyre first praised Ennis as a future star.

“He all right. He’s an all right kid. Him and Bozy, they all right people, you know. Can he fight? Yeah he can fight. Is he gonna be at the pinnacle one day? I’m sure he will.”

Asked if he was ready to face ‘Bud’, ‘BoMac’ was clear in his response.

“No, he’s not ready for Terence. No. Hell no. He makes too many mistakes, man. He gets hit with too much stuff he shouldn’t get hit with. I understand he’s taking chances, but you gotta be smart in there, young fellow. If you get cracked with one of them with power on it, you gonna feel it and you ain’t gonna walk through that. That’s how I look at it.”

Ennis and his father and trainer Bozy of course feel differently on the matter. The undefeated switch-hitter from Philly is 32-0 with 29 KOs and would be willing in future to move up in weight to face Crawford and prove McIntyre wrong. Right now, he’s focused on emulating the Omaha man’s success by collecting all the belts in the 147 ranks.

Crawford is said to be dismissive of any opponent that’s not Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
